You don’t need to be a Pastor to be in Ministry
You can work for God in the job you already have.
You don’t need to have an official title of “minister,” “pastor,” or “missionary.” You don’t need to work for a church, a non-profit, or a missions organisation.
The truth is that you already work for God, you just might not realise it.
God Has a Job for You
From Scripture, we know that God is always at work.
In the beginning, God spent six days working—creating and forming the universe (Genesis 1:1). Jesus’ three years of ministry were filled with hard work, so much so that sometimes he and the disciples didn’t even have time to eat (Mark 6:31). The Holy Spirit is constantly at work, reminding us of everything Jesus taught (John 14:26).

God is present at our workplaces and he’s getting work done. But do we see the ways he’s working? Do we hear his invitation to work with him?
How often do we ask ourselves:
What is God’s plan for me today in my job?
How would God have me respond to this coworker?
How can I serve my team, my company, my organisation?
Where is God inviting me to take initiative?
How can I reveal Jesus to my coworkers today?

Jesus did invite specific disciples (fishermen) to quit their jobs in order to join the work he was calling them to do. So God might be inviting some of you to go into full-time vocational ministry. But maybe God is inviting others of you to find a job in a particular workplace. Maybe God is calling you to go back to school, or to move to a new city.
God might also be inviting you to stay where you are. Maybe he is calling you to be part of a culture change at your workplace by
befriending someone you don’t know very well or organising fun social events after work or starting a sports team with some of your coworkers, maybe becoming a person of hospitality or generosity in your workplace
starting a spiritual discussion or Bible study with a coworker who is curious about Jesus we are all
sent As Witnesses to our Workplaces
We all have the opportunity to emulate Jesus in our workplaces. Think about what you can do today.
I really want to encourage you to be diligent with your Bible study time, because God has so much more for us than we can get from just going to church once or twice a week and hearing someone else talk about the Word. When you spend time with God, your life will change in amazing ways, because God is a Redeemer. There’s nothing that’s too hard for Him, and He can make you whole, spirit, soul and body!
