Humility cures worldliness
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. James 4:7-8 (NKJV).
Ever have one of those days when you start out on the Defensive? It seems like the entire world attacking you? In a way, the world is attacking you. Sin is all around, worldliness abounds. When we really think about what is causing us to feel this way, though, we often see that it is caused by us splitting our attention with the world.
Our attention must be on God and His word. If we split our focus, we will meet neither goal. Think about it this way, if you are running a race, and you know where the finish line is, you run towards it, right? Well, so it is in our life as Christians. We are running a race, but the goal we should be shooting for is being closer to God. If we are holding on to our sin, holding on to our possessions or holding on to anything else that is a part of creation, then we aren’t focusing on the Creator. If we don’t focus on the Creator, then we can’t possibly ever draw near to Him.
We must humble ourselves every day and focus on the goal of drawing nearer to God. We can’t truly humble ourselves until we fall on our knees before God and ask him to change our heart and mind to be of single focus. Being double-minded will lead to destruction, being of single mind, focused on your relationship with God through Christ, will lead to life.
Give it a go, focus on God! What have you got to lose?
I really want to encourage you to be diligent with your Bible study time, because God has so much more for us than we can get from just going to church once or twice a week and hearing someone else talk about the Word. When you spend time with God, your life will change in amazing ways, because God is a Redeemer. There’s nothing that’s too hard for Him, and He can make you whole, spirit, soul and body!
