Grace
Romans 5:20 (NKJV)
20 Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more,
I have been studying church history a lot lately and came across this story.
The Preacher and writer, John Bunyan surrendered his life to Christ after living what he described as ” a morally reprehensible life” with out God.
In 1653 he was accepted into the Congregational church and began preaching about his new life in Christ. He was able to preach for several years without imprisonment, but when he began preaching in Bedford, England in 1660, he was arrested and put in prisoner preaching without a license from the Anglican church. Bunyan was given the opportunity to be released if he would promise not to preach in private gatherings, but he refused to follow the mandatory dictates of the state church. Though Bunyan was confined to prison for more than twelve years, his voice was never silenced. During his imprisonment, he wrote what is considered to be his great classic, The Pilgrim’s Progress, and his autobiography , Grace abounding to the chief of sinners. According to Bunyan, his conversion was “a miracle of precious grace” without which he would have perished by the stroke of eternal justice.
The grace that John Bunyan experienced is God’s favour freely bestowed on us in Jesus name. God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense (GRACE). As we share the gospel with others, grace should be among the first words on our lips. Abounding, amazing grace, How sweet the sound.
I really want to encourage you to be diligent with your Bible study time, because God has so much more for us than we can get from just going to church once or twice a week and hearing someone else talk about the Word. When you spend time with God, your life will change in amazing ways, because God is a Redeemer. There’s nothing that’s too hard for Him, and He can make you whole, spirit, soul and body!
