Caught Like A Monkey
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:21 (NKJV)
Caught Like A Monkey
The is an ancient parable, “the monkeys fist”, that teaches us all a profound lesson. Native tribes would hollow out a coconut and fill it with bait, it could be a banana or something else that a monkey would like to eat, they would then tether the coconut to a tree to lure the monkeys in. When a monkey would come along and reach into the coconut, his hand would fit, but once his fist was full of the bait, the monkey couldn’t get his hand out and free himself. The tribesmen would then come along and finish the monkey off. The lesson for all of us is that the coconut was not the monkeys undoing, but rather his greedy unwillingness to let go of the fruit.
I know a lot of people like that, and I’m sure you do too. They clutch their material possessions so tightly in the attitude of their hearts that worry handicaps them, negatively impacting their faith, their family and friends, and their future. If only they would truly put God first, giving Him what belongs to Him, their time, their talents, and their treasures, then they could stop worrying about their futures.
