Aim For Perfection

2 Corinthians 13:11 (NKJV)

Greetings and Benediction

Finally, brethren, farewell. Become complete. Be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.

Aim For Perfection

In the King James Version, 2 Corinthians 13:11 says “Be perfect”. The New King James says “Become complete”. Other translations capture the spirit of Pauls advice by saying “Aim for Perfection”. Everyday we’re to grow more like Him who is perfect in every way.

The Bible gives us many examples of what a perfect God looks like. It says that God’s works are perfect and that He is perfect in knowledge (Deuteronomy 32:4, NIV: Job 37:16)  The law of the Lord is perfect (Psalm 19:7). His love and even His hatred are perfect (1 John 4:18; Psalm 5:5). He is able to keep us in perfect peace (Isaiah 26:3). We can experience His good and perfect will and enjoy His good and perfect gifts (Romans 12:2; James 1:17).

Sinless perfection may not be possible in this life, but the Psalmist testifies, The Lord will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O Lord, endures forever; Do not forsake the works of Your hands. Psalm 138:8 (NKJV). We can aim at perfection. Without Christ, our efforts in trying to achieve perfection are wasted, but in Christ, He who begun a good work in us will carry it onto completion (Philippians 1:6)

I really want to encourage you to be diligent with your Bible study time, because God has so much more for us than we can get from just going to church once or twice a week and hearing someone else talk about the Word. When you spend time with God, your life will change in amazing ways, because God is a Redeemer. There’s nothing that’s too hard for Him, and He can make you whole, spirit, soul and body!
