Introduction
The book of Psalms contains poetic praises of the God of Israel by those who had devout and grateful hearts.
We are repeatedly invited to join with them in giving praise to God.
It is a good thing to give praise to God, for our hearts are encouraged when we remind ourselves of God’s goodness, greatness, and faithfulness.
We also encourage the faith and faithfulness of other members of God’s family.
And finally, when we praise God, we encourage unbelievers to give serious thought to putting faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.
- Let us praise the Lord for the perfection of His person.
The psalmist said, “O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good.”
Satan tries to convince us at times that God is not good, that God does not love us, and that God cannot be trusted.
We need to be cautious lest we listen to his subtle suggestions.
Our God never makes a mistake, for He is perfect in character.
He is a moral God, a God of integrity who can be trusted.
He is reliable and trustworthy.
Let us praise Him for being that kind of God.
2. Let us praise the Lord for His purposes.
God’s purposes are always gracious.
He cares for us.
This is declared most beautifully in John 3:16 (AMP)
16 “For God so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He [even] gave His [One and] only begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trusts in Him [as Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life.
Jesus declared in John 10:10 (AMP)
10 The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows].
3. Let us praise the Lord for His precious promises.
The Bible contains many of God’s promises to us.
Like Abraham, we should cling to God’s promises.
We should move forward in life as well as in death, trusting in God’s ability and power to keep His promises (Romans 4:2-21)
4. Let us praise the Lord for His power.
Our Lord has the power to do anything that is consistent with His character.
God has placed some limitations on His power in that He will not compel us to become His children.
Neither will He force us to do His will against our will.
His power is available to us all to do all that we must accomplish His will and to face life with its difficulties and disappointments. (Philippians 4:13)
5. Let us praise the Lord for His abiding presence.
The psalmist was greatly comforted by faith in the abiding presence of the Lord of Hosts.
Our Lord promised to be with His followers to the end of the age. (Matthew 28:20)
6. Let us praise the Lord for His future provisions.
It was only normal that the apostles were distressed because the Lord would soon depart from them.
Later they were greatly comforted by His promise that He would prepare a place for them in the future.
Conclusion.
How long has it been since you praised the Lord?
Count your blessings one by one.
Do not remain silent.
Give voice to the gratitude of your heart.
Praising the Lord will bring His blessings.
Praising the Lord will strengthen the family of God.
Praising the Lord will encourage others to trust Jesus Christ as Saviour.
Until next time
