The Permanence Of God’s Love
Romans 8:35 (NKJV)
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
“Separation anxiety” is defined by the fear or dread felt by a person at the prospect of being separated from a beneficial relationship or environment. It becomes a disorder when such anxiety impairs someone’s ability to function normally. The great reformer Martin Luther might have suffered from such anxiety at the prospect of being separated from God due to his own sinfulness. Only his discovery that a relationship with God is sustained by faith, not works set Martin Luther free from his anxiety. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.” Romans 1:17 (NKJV)
The Permanence Of God’s Love
No Christian should ever fear being separated from the love of God. That is the clear testimony of God Himself written in His inspired word. Living in a world of imperfect love and failing relationships, we may find it challenging to rest in a love so pure and so permanent. But God’s love is indeed pure and permanent. Paul exhausted his creativity trying to think of something that could come between us and God’s love, and he failed. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39 (NKJV)
“Be anxious for nothing” Paul writes in Philippians 4:6, and that includes the permanence of God’s love.
I really want to encourage you to be diligent with your Bible study time, because God has so much more for us than we can get from just going to church once or twice a week and hearing someone else talk about the Word. When you spend time with God, your life will change in amazing ways, because God is a Redeemer. There’s nothing that’s too hard for Him, and He can make you whole, spirit, soul and body!
